NATO troops review preparedness as the Russian invasion of Ukraine enters the 17th day









The Russian-Ukrainian conflict enters week three. NATOnations are now reviewing their defense preparedness. Canada and Latvia commanders have highlighted the ongoing conflict underscores the importance of NATO deployments and military drills.

NATO has been conducting drills at the Adazi military base. Tanks and other armored vehicles of various NATO member states participated in target practice and other exercises. Military airplanes and helicopters practice flybys.

Latvia's chief of defense said that they were studying what is happening in Ukraine and are observing tactics that could be used in the event of a potential attack. Meanwhile, the NATO commander in Latvia also said, troops, are now focusing on major tasks of deterring potential aggression.

After Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine NATO activated parts of its rapid response force for the first time. Member countries sent reinforcements, NATO has four enhanced forward presence battle groups in eastern Europe. These are posted in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland. Which were established after the annexation of Crimea in 2014. 

Meanwhile, NATO troops and their partners will begin a training exercise from next week in Norway kicking off on March 14th. The cold response 2022 exercise will enable Western Nations to strengthen their combat skills in Norway's cold climate and is slaughtered to be the largest military drill involving NATO troops this year. Some 30,000 troops, 200 aircraft, and 50 vessels are likely to take part in this exercise.
